GLASS + MATTE PAINTING  /  LEAGUE OF LEGENDS 'WILD RIFT' (2022)

Two in-camera glass shots and miniatures for the 'League of Legends - Wild Rift' spectacular opening ceremony film directed by Ross Cooper

With the League of Legends Wild Championship Live Show cancelled at the last minute due to pandemic restrictions, there was just three weeks to create a film to showcase the talent of the show's performers. This meant very little time in post, so nearly all the vfx was handled practically in-camera. This was a fantastic opportunity to bring the traditional craft of the glass shot to a contemporary film for a young audience.

Perspective lines were drawn off at Leavesden, working up a tower facing down to a live action set. Back at our workshop the drawing was finished and painting blocked in in the intended painterly style. We had a couple of hours back on set to fine tune before shooting. The scenes are revealed as glass shots in the film through creative transitions.
