GLASS + MATTE PAINTING /
One of the few traditional matte painters in the industry, Mattes & Miniatures' Leigh Took welcomes all opportunities to continue his art. Leigh began his career as an apprentice at Pinewood Studios on Warlords of Atlantis (1978), learning the classic techniques of matte painting under the supervision of Cliff Culley. Leigh's recent matte paintings feature in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain (2021).
The Εlectrical Life of Louis Wain (2021)
The Wains' cottage sequence, a combination of traditional matte painting by Leigh and digital VFX by One of Us.
The film beautifully combines traditional and digital VFX as an innovative way of portraying Wain’s unstable mental health. It was shortlisted for the British Independent Film Awards under the category ‘Best Effects’.
League of Legends - 'Wild Rift' (2022)
A future-fantasy Singapore street, the first of two in-camera glass shots for the 'League of Legends - Wild Rift' spectacular opening ceremony film.
The live show was cancelled last minute due to covid restrictions, leaving just 3 weeks to create this opening ceremony film. With very little time in post, nearly all the vfx were handled practically in-camera.
The film won a D&AD Graphite pencil for Practical VFX.
